Page of Cups Tarot card

Symbolism and Meaning

The Page of Cups is a figure full of grace, delicacy and youthful fantasy. On the card we see a young person standing on the seashore, dressed in an elegant, flowery tunic decorated with water lilies. In his hand he holds a golden cup from which a fish unexpectedly leaps. The Page looks at it with curiosity and affection, not with fear or surprise.

The fish in the cup is a symbol of unexpected inspiration, a thought emerging from the depths of the subconscious (the sea), and of the spirit materialising in the real world. It is the "golden fish" that grants wishes, or an idea that suddenly pops into your head. The sea in the background is calm, suggesting emotional harmony, but also a great depth of feeling to which the Page has access through his intuition.

The Page of Cups is a dreamer, a poet and a romantic. He represents the beginning of an emotional experience, a first love, an infatuation or the birth of an artistic project. He is someone who listens to the heart, not to reason. The card often points to a young person (in age or at heart), sensitive and empathetic, but sometimes a little naive or with their head in the clouds.

Interpretation of the Card

In a spread, the Page of Cups usually heralds good news concerning feelings. It may be a love letter, an invitation on a date, news of the birth of a child or of an engagement. Professionally it means inspiration, creativity and an intuitive approach to problems. The card encourages you to trust your "sixth sense" and to open up to the surprises fate brings.
