The Moon Tarot card

Symbolism and Meaning

After the hopeful light of the Star, we enter the dark, misty landscape of the Moon. It is a card of illusion, dreams and the deep subconscious. The Moon shines with reflected light, which makes things look different from how they really are - shadows seem like monsters and the path becomes uncertain.

On the card we see a path running between two towers - the boundary between the known and the unknown. A dog (tamed nature) and a wolf (wild nature) howl at the moon, symbolising our fears and instincts. A crayfish (or lobster) emerges from the water, representing our deepest, often repressed emotions and thoughts, which are now rising to the surface.

The Moon card warns: "Not everything is as it seems". It is a time of uncertainty, of groping in the dark and of confronting your own demons. But it is also a card of powerful intuition and magic. In this light logic fails - you must rely on hunches, dreams and instinct to find your way to the dawn.

Interpretation of the Card

In a spread, the Moon often points to confusion, a lack of clarity or deception (including self-deception). It may mean a period of anxiety, sleeplessness or intense dreams. On the other hand, it is a powerful sign for artists and mystics - your imagination and intuition are working at full power. Beware of false friends and hidden motives.
