XVII. The Star

Hope, Inspiration and Spiritual Renewal

The Star Tarot card

Symbolism and Meaning

After the destruction and chaos brought by the Tower, the Star appears in the sky - a symbol of peace, hope and a new direction. The card shows a naked woman (a symbol of truth and naturalness) kneeling by the water. From one jug she pours water into a stream (feeding the collective subconscious), and from the other onto the land (watering the material world).

Above her shines a great eight-pointed star (often identified with Sirius or Venus), surrounded by seven smaller stars. They symbolise the seven chakras and the harmony of the universe. The bird sitting in the tree (an ibis) is a symbol of the soul and of inspiration. The Star is a card of healing - it heals the wounds of the battles fought in the earlier stages of the journey.

The Star says: "Everything will be all right". It is the light at the end of the tunnel, the promise of a better tomorrow and the return of faith in the meaning of life. It means finding your place in the universe, inner peace and optimism. It is the moment when dreams begin to take shape and we feel guided by a higher power.

Interpretation of the Card

In a spread, the Star is like a blessing. It heralds the end of difficulties, a return to health, renewed hope and artistic inspiration. It is a time to dream and to plan the future with confidence. The card encourages you to be authentic ("naked") and to open up to the gifts of fate. In relationships it heralds tenderness, friendship and spiritual understanding.
