Ace of Cups Tarot card

Symbolism and Meaning

The Ace of Cups is one of the most beautiful cards in the Tarot deck. It shows a hand emerging from a cloud, holding a golden cup overflowing with water. It is a symbol of the endless flow of emotions, love and spiritual grace. The water is not still - it gushes like a fountain, suggesting that the feelings are so strong and abundant that they cannot be kept to oneself; they must flow out into the world and to other people.

Above the cup hovers a white dove (a symbol of the Holy Spirit and of peace), placing a wafer marked with a cross into it. This is a clear reference to the Holy Grail - the vessel of divine grace. The five streams of water flowing from the cup fall into a sea dotted with lotuses, symbolising the connection of our five senses with the depths of the subconscious and spiritual awakening.

Unlike the Ace of Wands (masculine energy, action), the Ace of Cups represents the feminine principle - receiving, feeling and intuition. It is the heart opening up to new experiences. The card heralds an emotional beginning: it may be a new love, a deep friendship, the birth of a child or a moment of spiritual enlightenment that fills us with inner peace.

Interpretation of the Card

In a spread, the Ace of Cups is a gift of the heart. It heralds a period of great happiness, euphoria and emotional fulfilment. If you are asking about love, it is the best possible sign, suggesting falling in love or a renewal of feelings in an existing relationship. It is also a card of powerful intuition and fertility (both physical and artistic).
