Six of Pentacles Tarot card

Symbolism and Meaning

The Six of Pentacles is a card showing harmony in the world of matter. We see a wealthy merchant (or aristocrat) who with one hand gives gold coins to kneeling beggars, while in the other he holds a pair of scales. This is a very important symbol - it means that his generosity is neither impulsive nor naive. It is balanced, fair and conscious.

The scales symbolise the balance between giving and taking. In life we are sometimes the one who gives (when we have the resources) and at other times the one who needs help (the beggar). The card teaches that both states are a natural part of the financial cycle. There is no shame in asking for help, just as there is no pride in helping. It is a flow of energy that must remain undisturbed.

It is a positive card that means financial support. It may be a grant, a scholarship, a bonus or simply a friend's helping hand when you are in need. If you are the one in a good position, the card encourages you to share your success - generosity comes back to us many times over (karma).

Interpretation of the Card

In a spread, the Six of Pentacles is a sign that help is on the way. If you have financial problems, someone will support you or you will get a loan on good terms. If you are looking for work, you will find a generous employer. On the other hand, this card may ask: "Can you receive?", or "Do you share what you have?". It is a lesson that money is energy - it must circulate in order to multiply.
