Symbolism and Meaning

The Three of Cups is a card that radiates pure joy of life and the spirit of community. It shows three women dancing in a circle, raising golden cups in a toast. Their linked arms and gestures symbolise unity, mutual support and "sisterhood". There is no rivalry here - there is cooperation and sharing of happiness.

The women wear wreaths of flowers on their heads, which means victory and celebrating success. At their feet lie ripe pumpkins, grapes and other fruit, symbolising an abundant harvest, fertility and the reward for a shared effort. It is a card of fulfilment that tastes best when shared with loved ones. The colours of their robes (often red, white and gold) refer to passion, pure intentions and richness of spirit.

Unlike the intimate Two of Cups (a couple), the Three opens up to the group. It is the archetype of "the party", a social gathering or an important family celebration. The card reminds us that human beings are social creatures and that to be completely happy we need friends with whom we can laugh, dance and celebrate important moments.

Interpretation of the Card

In a spread, the Three of Cups heralds joyful events. It often announces a wedding, a christening, a promotion celebrated with the team or simply a good evening with friends. It is a sign that problems are fading into the background and a carefree time is coming - a time of healing relationships and enjoying the moment. It says: "Go out, have fun and enjoy life!".
