Symbolism and Meaning

The Ten of Cups is one of the most optimistic cards in the deck, symbolising ultimate fulfilment in matters of the heart. In the picture we see a happy family (a couple and two children playing) standing in an idyllic landscape with a house. They are all looking at the sky, where a great rainbow of ten golden cups appears.

The rainbow is the biblical symbol of the covenant, of peace and of the end of the storm. It means that the difficulties are over and a time of blessings has come. The cups in the sky symbolise spiritual and emotional gifts that are now fully available. It is a picture of perfect harmony between the inner and outer worlds, between partners, and between parents and children.

While the Nine of Cups spoke of individual satisfaction ("I have"), the Ten speaks of happiness shared with loved ones ("we have"). It is the archetype of a happy home, a safe haven and a love that has stood the test of time. It is fulfilment not only on a material level, but above all on a spiritual and relational one.

Interpretation of the Card

In a spread, the Ten of Cups heralds a "happy ending". In love it means a lasting, happy relationship, marriage or starting a family. In domestic matters it heralds peace, agreement and security. If you have been through a difficult period, this card is a promise that the storm is over and the sun is coming out. It is the moment when you feel you are exactly where you are meant to be, surrounded by the people you love.
